Crunchy and freeze dried? Sign me up!

It is finally September! Cooler days are headed our way. It is about time. It has been a pretty good month. I got to go to the baseball game and coming up is my 13th 5k! Not too shabby for a pup that is only 6 years old. We have not done much else because mom got into some poison ivy (her first time ever!) and being itchy and blotchy is not her idea of fun, so I played nurse instead of having walkies or trips to the park. Snuggles are always a good thing.

Here is me at the game, I was a little unsure of why they kept changing pitchers. I am still a forever and raised royal pup.

Onward to the important part of this post, the yummy stuff I got to test out. There were so many choices, it was hard to pick one. I decided to settle on some freeze dried treats. I have been on a total freeze dried kick lately. This month we go back to the Stella and Chewy’s brand. A brand we have come to know and trust.

This months selection is called Carnivore Crunch. IMG_3667

It comes in Duck, Chicken, Beef, and Turkey. As you can see,  I got to try out the Duck recipe. The moment she showed me the bag, I was pretty dang interested.

The duck recipe contains 98% poultry, organs, and ground bone. It of course is grain and gluten free. What about the other 2%? Well that is Pumpkin Seeds and Tocopherols (which acts as a preservative) Our bag does differ from the bag show on Chewy’s website, it looks like the recipe was changed slightly. It now contains Fenugreek seed. We took a look at what that was and it can help us with inflammation, lower blood glucose level, improve digestion, and help with skin and coat problems.

Each treat is about 2.3 kcals, So it is perfect for those pups keeping the weight down or it can be used as a training treat. They are also the perfect size. Sometimes all you need is a one bite treat. (mainly because it means I can get multiple treats at in one sitting)

Look at those yummy nuggets! I thought they were super tasty. I got to have five or six of them! The back of the package said that cats love them too. Mom offered a treat to Baby and Sam. They sniffed at it and then gobbled it up. Baby looked around for seconds. I am pretty sure that means he liked it. Mom even saw him trying to bust into the bag. That says a lot.

One thing that we really love about this company is their commitment to quality. Each batch is tested and those results can be found on their website. Recalls can be pretty scary when it comes to food or treats for dogs or cats. We can rest easy knowing that because the batch was tested, we do not have to worry about e coli or salmonella.  We were able to see that the batch tested negative for those bacteria’s.

So after testing this out and having to do all kinds of tricks to get them, I declare this to be worthy of 4 paws up. The kitties give four paws up as well.

We love the ingredients. Any treat that is mostly protein is always a plus in this house. We like that it is free of grains, fillers, gluten, artificial preservatives, or colorings. The size of the treat is perfect for all almost all sizes of pups and kitties. The low calorie amount makes it a great way to do training and not have to worry about over feeding of treats.

Mary had a little lamb and boy was it tasty

Hi guys and gals, I’m Baby. I am one of Lily’s brofurs. Every once in a while Lily lets us pick out something to test out. She was feeling nice this month and let us pick out something to review. Bater aka icky kitty did not want to participate. He is more of a dry food kind of guy.  So just my brofur Sam and I are the taste testers this month.

We knew that Lily liked some treats from a company called Ziwi Peak. They are from New Zealand. Mom is pretty picky and only likes to buy treats and food made in the US, but she makes an exception for Ziwi Peak because of the high quality food and treats it provides for us kitties and pups.

We were pretty excited when mom popped open the can, she could barely snap a picture or two before we were trying to dig right in.

The recipe we tried was Lamb. When you look at the back of the can the first five ingredients are lamb, lamb broth, lamb liver, lamb lung,  and lamb kidney. That is a whole lot of lamb. Then after some chick peas, they have lamb tripe and lamb heart. You  practically get a whole lamb in one can. Well not really, I am pretty sure lambs are bigger than one of these cans. You also have some New Zealand Green Mussel, lamb bone, and dried kelp. When you really look at it, the can of food contains lamb, chick peas, mussel, and kelp. They do add some vitamins and minerals to make sure we get everything us mini lions need.

We devoured the can. Pretty sure it was a record of how fast we ate the food. We really liked this food. We are not huge fans of pate, but we had zero problems devouring this. Our usual food has 5.5 oz of food in each can, this can contains 6.5 oz. The extra ounce was nothing for us. We did not even bat a whisker at the extra amount. In fact we were pretty happy about it.

Isn’t that a glorious plate? So much yummy goodness. That my furry pals is 93% meat, organs, and  NZ green mussels. This recipe is designed to mirror the whole prey nutrient dense diet using those very ingredients. We are tiny predators and we want to eat like our mighty feline relatives.

Ziwi Peak never includes grains, rice, corn, soy, potatoes, wheat, fillers, sugars, glycerin’s, rendered meals, preservatives, TSPP, BPA, guar gum, agar agar or carrageenan.  Not using any of those products helps keep the formula as natural as possible.

Their lamb is 100% single-sourced lamb which is  free-range and grass-fed on ethical and sustainable New Zealand farms; free of antibiotics, growth promotants and added hormones.

We know that is a lot of big  and sometimes confusing words, but what they are trying to say is that they want to make sure that they are providing the best possible food for us kitties by using only the best proteins and ingredients. Which is a very good thing. Quality food makes for a very happy and healthy kitty.

Sam and I give this food four paws up. We loved this food, we are hoping that mom gets more of it. Mom says she will, but it will just be in rotation and will not take place of our usual food. Sometimes we are being jerk faces and refuse to eat our regular food, so mom has cans of extra special food set aside that she knows we will eat. We definitely prefer this food to our normal food. It is very tasty and who knew that lamb could be so yummy? We usually eat just turkey or chicken. It is nice to have another protein for our supper time.

Ziwi Peak also offers recipes using beef, mackerel, venison, and rabbit. I think they should come out with a variety pack, so we could try them all!

If you are looking for a high protein food, that contains zero fillers, grains, or preservatives, then check out Ziwi Peak right meow. We are  pretty sure you will be purring rather than hissing after mealtime.
