Meat free can be pretty tasty!

You did not actually think I would allow the cats all the tasty goodness this month did you? I noticed that there were many other dog options to test out. Those stinky cats trying to trick me by saying it was cat only stuff to test out. You can teach us tricks, but you certainly aren’t going to trick us.

Icky kitty aka Bater likes two brands of food to eat. One of those brands is called Halo. I noticed that this month, Halo dog treats was one of the things we could test out. They are called Halo Healthsome. They are also vegetarian treats!  That means that the treats contain zero meat. Now I know I have gone on and on about how I am a descendant of the mighty wolf and I need my meat. Well that is very true, but this is a treat. Totally different rules apply when it comes to treats. Food = meat, treats = whatever is good and tasty, but also healthy.

These are crunchy biscuit treats that contain peanut and pumpkin. They also have lots of other veggies. The complete ingredient list is as follows: Potato Flour, Ground Peanuts, Tapioca Flour, Ground Peas, Canola Oil, Pumpkin, Tomatoes, Apples, Sweet Potatoes, Cranberries, Carrots, Split Peas, Broccoli, Parsley, and Ascorbic Acid (a Preservative).

We like that these treats have ingredients that you can actually pronounce with ease and can find most of those ingredients in the produce section at the grocery store. Even though peas are in the list twice, they make it so you cannot actually tell that peas are inside. It is trickery, but tasty trickery.

The treats are pretty big. They are 27 kcals a piece. Those of you who have been reading my blog for a while now, know that I am on a stupid diet. My treats are limited to 80 calories a day. My dental chew takes up 40 of that, so only 40 calories left for my treats. I can have one of these with my dental chew and still have calories left for a couple training treats. A girl that has to watch her calorie intake will indeed make sure that she gets the max amount of treats allowed.

Now that we got all the stuff about calories and ingredients out of the way, you probably are wondering what I thought about these meatless crunchy treats? I loved them! They are super crunchy and tasty. I licked them and crunched them, and made sure I licked up all the pieces that fell. I even got to have three whole treats! It was for testing purposes, so that one extra calorie is okay. I tried to get one more treat from mom, but that was not  happening. She said I had enough and would have to wait until the next day to get one more.

Mom says the treats smell just fine. They are not stinky at all. She is weird like that. She smells all my treats. She said they smell like people food. Duh! It is made from people food. She wishes that they were less calories, but they can easily be broken in half to cut down on the amount of calories.

So mom and I are both happy with these yummy vegetarian treats! I give them 4 paws up. If you would like to learn more about Halo Healthsome Treats then you should totally click here

This one is for the fishes

Hi! I am your guest blogger today. My name is Sam, also known as Sammy, Samuel, old yellow, and yellow kitty. I am Lily’s feline brother. Actually there are three of us! Baby and Bater are my two other feline brothers. This month we decided that it was time for us to test something out. We are not big on eating treats, so when we saw food being offered, we pounced at the chance to put some food to the test.

We are some picky kitties. Really picky eaters. One day we will like one type of can food, then the next day we will turn our tiny pink noses up at it. Baby and I are the can food eaters, Bater just likes to have a nibble here and there. He is all about the crunchy food.

The can food we got to test out is Tiki Cat. We have tried Tiki cat before, but this one is all seafood. Now remember when I said we are picky eaters? Well that includes most seafood. So mom was skeptical, but knew that we were Tiki Cat fans. She says it is her go to food when we refuse to eat anything at all. She pops open a can and suddenly we have an appetite. We just like the really good stuff!

That is Bater, he insisted on being the model. This variety pack includes the following flavors: Ahi Tuna, Sardine Cutlets, Tuna in Crab Surimi Consommé, Mackerel and Sardines in Calamari Consommé, Sardine Cutlets in Lobster Consommé, and Ahi Tuna with Crab in Tuna Consommé. WOW! That is so many different types of seafood.  We were ready to try some new types of food. After some loud meowing, she put a can down and let us see what we thought.

The first one we tried was the Ahi Tuna with Crab. It was delicious! Even the supposed hater of wet food joined in. That is really saying something.

The next day we got to try the Sardine Cutlets in Lobster Consommé. This one we had mixed reviews on. We liked the lobster part, but the sardines we did not like very much. In fact, that stinky dog ate them!

Next up was Ahi Tuna, which we thought was very good. Day by day, we got to try all the other flavors and it seems that all round we love everything but the sardines. We are just not fans of them. Just like out canine sister who hates peas, we just hate sardines.

Tiki Cat is high in protein, but low in fat. So that means we can keep fit while enjoying some very fancy food. It is also made from human grade ingredients. The quality of the seafood is so high, that it is certified for human consumption. Not that my mom would, she is not a fan of seafood.  Mom did not like the smell of them at all, but we thought they smelled very good. She does not know what she is missing.

We give this 3 paws up because of out dislike of the sardines. Don’t let that stop you from trying this food out. Tiki Cat is very tasty. To get more information on our variety pack visit Chewy.com
